I realise some people don't show loan cars the same respect they show their own, but how do they get to be in quite such a terrible state? Two VWs I've been loaned lately with this year's plates on have felt like they're completely wasted already. Surely most people only keep them a week or two at most, and the exteriors are nearly always checked on collection and return. But what on earth happens to the mechanisms to make even new ones drive like 100-year old traction engines?

We have 60 cars on fleet at my garage all class A cars (yaris/Corsa) it states that whilst the car is in their possesion they are responsible for the upkeep i.e oil/ water etc we have them for only a year and they do not get serviced or maintained. but they do get abused as some people just don't have respect and as you can imagine the reason they have a courtesy car is because a lot of them have damaged their own through fault accidents so it is a risk giving them out in the first place.

Are the courtesy cars smaller than the one you drive yourself we have complaints about the size and drive if customer drive a more hi-spec car.

not smaller in size but lesser make of VW. I drive a new Eos, they loan me a beat-up Jetta
when i had a courtesy car, Honda gave me a vauxhall corsa (the old shape) and it was an absolute death trap. it was only a year old and the engine sounded so rough i thought it was gonna cut out of me half the time. i was scared to drive it!! i think they gave me that cos i rejected their Honda Jazz. i'd put in the new vauxhall corsa to get repaired when some idiot pulled out into me and was expecting a Honda Civic Type R :o(
