Evo magazine's �15k 8min Nurburgring car

For those of you who read Evo...
They tried to build a car for �15k which could lap the Nordschleife in under 8 minutes
Jethro Bovingdon bought an (E36?) M3 and stripped it out, replaced the suspension, added light alloys, chip and new exhaust etc and didn't quite break the 8 minute barrier. Still a great achievment and a bloody quick car!
What car would you use if you were trying to do the same?
It's purely hypothetical, I think I would use an Evo5 or some imported Impreza bought for about 4-5k and spend the rest on an engine upgrade (350bhp-ish), suspension and brakes.
