96 renault megane boot door won't open! any ideas??

hi, just bought a 96 renuault as a little weekend runabout (got a new transit so got to compromise!). only problem is the boot door won't open from the outside, even with the key! any ideas? i can open it from the inside by folding back seat and opening it from the inside (not any easy task when i've got to take two toddler car seats out not to mention to toddlers!!! all this just to get my tesco shopping in the boot!!! arghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! nightmare!
