parts for all rovers are very easy to get, many places sell them up and down the country, and as the previous post says, most of them were made by other companies,so take no notice of your friend
As said before parts are not the trouble with Rovers but reliability of certain versions. The 1.8 engines are prone to blowing head gaskets and the Rover 75s with Dual control climate control are prone to blocked heater matrixes leading to no heating on the passenger side.
Parts for Rovers and the majority of other motors are made by other companies too, this is why they are cheaper than dealer parts but do the same job, my advice get a new friend or take what they say with a pinch of salt.
