Ok...I know this isn't the answer you are probably looking for...but car radios even to this day are not standard in ALL new cars. Some cars...especially some sports cars come without radios to keep weight at a minimum....I know that for a long time, Lotus has never fitted car radios...which must hack off buyers a bit when they spend so much on a car, you know? Whether or not they still don't include them, I can't answer. But they are by far from alone in that practice.
Along with sports car manufacturers, Mercedes do not fit radios as standard.

thanks snapdarlich and sigma--i figured there would still be cars without radios as standard--esp sports as u said snapdarlich--my son--to whom i am supposed to be the font of all knowledge had asked me last week and i couldn't say--every car i have owned since the 1960's has had a radio but then they have all been 2nd hand and may not have had a radio when new--guess most saloon/family type cars have a radio as standard nowadays--but suprisingly, apparently, according to sigma not mercedes--thanks for that--oh well then that is mercedes crossed off my list for my new car--ha ha--cheers
My wife had an E reg (1990 - ish?) Fiesta that didn't have a stereo fitted.
