I have recently bought the above car i was told by the dealer that it had a timing chain not a cambelt, so it did not need changing and was very low maintenance. Can anyone tell me whether this imformation is right on this type of car as i am not convinced, the engine in the car is a ecotec if that has relevance to the question?

i sell cars and would not lie about something like that, what has he got to gain from telling you that, because its easily checked out,and yes i do know, but check with your local main dealer,if you dont believe him.
They are chain drive - I've got an '02 one.
