how to enter a radio code

Hi I have just returned from holiday and the battery on my vauxhall vetra went completely flat and now my radio does not work - i have the radio code but i do not know how to put the code in as the radio is not asking for it can anyone help, i do not have the hand book and the LCD screen read SAFE it is a 1996 model

When the display shows ---- keep pressing the #1 button to obtain the first digit of the code. If you press too many times, just keep going to cycle the numbers again. Press #2 button for the second number, and similarly #3 and #4 buttons. When the code is correct, press and hold the AS button till you hear a beep.
