My car is an R reg, is the cam belt safe?

It's safe at the moment but it could break anytime, depends how old it is and how many miles it has done from new or how many miles it has done since it was last renewed and you seem to be keeping those details a secret.

If its petrol 60000 miles or 5 years
Not sure about diesel.

Whatever you do, don't take risks. The belt on my R reg 1.8 Passatt broke, and it was a very expensive repair (fortunately I didn't have to pay the bill). And that was 5 years ago.
