how old does a motorcycle have to be before it is classed as a classic and then excempt from road tax?

All vehicles except buses and lorries used commercially, that were constructed before 1st January 1973 may tax in the 'historic vehicle' tax class.
yes that's another of Gordon's master strokes, originally the rule was 25 years old but good old Gordon froze the date in 1998.

However a bike can be much younger and be classed as a classic, ie bikes that rasied the bar, a good example is the Fireblade 1990 (i think) and of ourse my own R1!
