is it legal to drive with wrist in plaster

i have my left wrist in plastr for 4-6weeks and was wondering is it illegal to drive whilst in plaster.i can hold steering wheel ok and use gear stick. is your insurance valid?

i would think a letter from your doctor would cover you in the eyes of your insurance company.
