wrangler coils

i have just fitted a new coil to my wrangler 2.5 1989 it has melted the coil the wires were fitted correctly has anyone else had this happen or were i can find out about this problem many thanks

hi yes i have got the right coil,it took a lot of searching but after importing it from the states i was assured it is the right type.my problem originally started cos someone had changed the coil for one of the wrong type and bodged it into the wiring loom,hence i had no connectors to do the simple plug in and play scenario, the coil has 2 +'s one a pin and the other a spade, 1 negative and is earthed thru its body , the + were conected to the switched live and the other was connected to the crank sensor so the the other was earther into the loom and this left the tacho wire feee which i was not sure where it would connect so left it taped away safely,
