Again on tonight`s TV crime programme, a witness thought the gunshot could have been a car backfiring. But, when did you last hear a car backfiring?

Indeed, do our younger drivers even know what it means?

Modern engine management systems IF functioning correctly will avoid this happening. With carburetors as used on older cars this is much more likely to happen as the fuel/air mixture cannot be so closely controlled.
