my car, a vaux astra estate has recently started to cut out. even while i am driving.... the bloody thing wont start again straightaway either!! some times it starts and runs for a few minuetes and when i try to pull away it dies on me.... its getting really stupid (and dangerous) now!
am at my wits end and just need to know if there is a simple fix before i try 30 per hour on a mechanic, as when it runs its great... but then this'll happen :(
any help would be great in advance thanks..

have you tried removing the air filter pipe off the top of the carburettor. start the car and spray some carb cleaner down slowly controlling the revs on the throttle cable as it will try to stall just done same thing to my vectra and its stopped stalling and also is now using less petrol. make sure you get some carb cleaner thats ok for use with a catylytic convertor. otherwise it could be the mass air flow sensor or the throttle position sensor. sorry i cant be more help
My astra sport did this and i had to have a new computer thingy fitted, dont know name sorry. No diagnostic check ever showed a problem and like yours it was cutting out for no reason at all times, even 70mph on dual carriageway once. Terrifying!

The car was only 2 years old so i had thing done under warranty but they still never managed to fix it. in the end i had to sell it as i didnt feel comfortable in it.
It could be a number of things but you need to give more details about your car - petrol, diesel, year, engine size etc etc..... Better to post on a Vauxhall Owner forum, you are more likely to get to the bottom of it on there. Just 'google' for vauxhall owner forums. Good luck.
