Has the Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4 engine 8 valves or has it more - reason I ask - my wife has a 2002 new model 1.3 Fiesta and it couldn't pull the knickers off a nun - absolutely dead engine/no power.
She would like to change to something with a bit more poke in it andI was thinking the same size engine with a few more valves would suit.

the 1.3 is either 58 of 68 Din hp . depending on engine code.

the 1.4 is 80

even the 1.25 has either 70 or 75

so you are right.. the 1,3 has no power.
I think the 1.3 and 1.1 were High Compression Swirl (HCS) engines which were overhead valve pushrod engines and were 8V so not very nippy at all.

What's the 1.4 - 8v,12v or 16v ?
the 1.25 and 1.4 are 16v

Any known problems with the Ford Zetec engine ?
The old 1.3 is the outdated endura engine. The 1.25 was much better.
the zetec's are quite reliable, but they are very fussy on the right engine oil.
Question Author
How do you mean fussy ? - I use Semi-synthetic on hers at the minute.
in this country you should use a 5/30 grade oil as 10/40 is too thick in the winter and cannot travel through the engine fast enough

a ford garage will use 5/30 but if you go to a non franchise garage, they may use the same 10/40 that they put in most cars.
