my y reg volvo estate v40 has started to make a kind of rumbling sound .
It seems to come from the front passenger side of the car
has anyone any idea what the problem is?

try getting the wheel barings checked if it comming from wheel
yes as dayoff suggested wheel bearings or cv joints
Probably wheel bearings, but don't drive it around until you get it checked out - If it has got to the ''rumbling'' stage then it must be pretty well worn and it might break up and seize up on you (not nice).
When my CV joint was worn it made a clicking sound esp when turning.
