I have recently bought a vw polo from an auction and was only supplied with one key. I've asked the local vw dealership and they have quoted 120 for a new one. The key that I have is just a bog standard car key no remote. my question is, should there be a remote key for the car and is the one that I have just the spare ? Thanks Mel.

it all depends on the age of the car, if it 1997 onward there a good chance it would of had a remote fob.
the fob can be purchased fairly cheap on ebay but would have to be programmed by the main dealer or a specialist.
however if you just need a bog standard key try getting it at a locksmith specalising in security locks, they will probably still be in excess of 25 but shouldn't be any more than 60
The key is sure to have a chip in it, so it's not just a key. Shop around as suggested. Also be very cautious about buying a car with only one key..........who has the other? I know of people who a bought a car and had it stolen within days, so fit some extra security device. Don't say you were not warned!
