Just keep looking it will turn up, try the autotrader book from newsagents or local papers.
i'd go for a vw polo, not that i like em, just they are pretty reliable, a lot more reliable than anything french thats for sure
auto trader website is good as well
I was advised to not go near fiat, clearly as their customer service is apparently rubbish. if you only have 1000 you're probably better buying privately as oppose to from a dealer. I bought my 106 for 2895 froma dealer and my sales bloke accidently let it slip that they bought it in for 1900... not happy! There's a link on autotrader to a website called whatcar? and you can put in details of any car you're looking at, eg. mileage, reg, model etc, and it will show you the price you should expect to pay for it from a dealer or if you trade another car in, buy it privately etc. hope I helped!
