I am currently replacing the thermostat on my escort and when I took the hose off last night the thermostat was pushed out by the water and i didnt get a good look at which way it was sitting....so does anyone know which way it goes back in to the engine housing, is it the widest end which has the rubber on that goes into the housing first or the thinner end...what happens if i fit it incorrectly will the car overheat??

All help appreciated thx
