im looking at a new car, the car i like was previously owned by motability and driven by a disabled person as its registered as a diabled car. im not disabled, but have driven the car and it drives lovely.
Upon getting insurance quotes im being told its an automatic, it may have been previously but isnt anymore, but would anyone have any thoughts (negative or positive) about a car that used to be an automatic but has obviously been changed to a manual - its just ive never come accross a car like that before, and wondering if such a car would be ok, or if to avoid because its been converted from an automatic to a manual
thanks

I can't conceive of any circumstances where an auto car would be converted to manual (or vice vers for that matter). I would suggest some records are wrong somewhere.
It's quite possibly the other way round, in that Motability converted a manual car according to the disability eg so that the gears could be changed without using the gear lever. Presumably, at first registration DVLA were then told it was automatic. As it just looks like a manual now, the modifications would have been removed. I think it would just be a case of altering the reg document and sending it back to DVLA.
As said, in no way would it have been automatic and now made into manual.
The DVLA do not need to know if a car has had any modifications eg: hand controls so I don't know what the insurance company are on about.

Maybe it has been documented wrongly at first registration? If so its easy to get changed.
Also make sure the registation number you have is correct, many insurance companies put the number in and rely on the info that pops up being correct.
Best go back to them and get a quote telling them to ignore what the computer says and input the car themselves as a manual.
