before changing the ECU i would have the IDLE CONTROL VALVE (ICV) checked sounds like it just needs cleaning?
Hi there. Good advice to check the ICV. The brain is the ECU which controls ignition timing, fuel delivery and all the sensors associated. It would be worth checking simple things first like the ICV. Also check to see if there are any air leaks around vacum pipes. Might also be worth checking the air filter. On some cars it is possible to reset the ECU. Indeed I have done this a couple of times (on a 1992 mini) and it did improve running. If you do decide to get a new ECU you might be able to pick one up from a scrappie for a fraction of the price.
