Skoda Tailgate handle

I've got a W Reg Skoda Octavia Estate and the tailgate handle doesn't seem to work at present. The same fault happened a couple of months ago, but magically cleared overnight - I'm guessing that it is an electrical fault, but if anyone has a solution I'll be keen to hear (to avoid a costly adventure to the dealership!)
