Its a 1990 fiesta 1.1, carburettor model

the fuel pump has a small breather hole underneath, and its started to leak, the grey gungy sludge you get if you use the car for short trips.

anyone else had the same problem?

am going to replace it, just wondered if its worth getting one from a scrappy, or do they all go the same way?

Hi essex,

I have now got some quotes: the best price I have had is 12.40+VAT, the highest is "about 20 quid" (thats how the supplier gave me his "price" but of course I will not be going there!). Nope, thats not the end of the world, and now that I have a price I will be getting new rather than from a scrap yard.

And I assure you, there IS a hole: I discovered that by looking in the Haynes manual and there is a photo in there that clearly shows a hole. It will be a breather hole, on the non-petrol side of the diaphragm: a breather is required so that the diaphragm is not trying to pump in a sealed chamber which would offer resistance to it moving.
