can anyone tell me when they made laws for car trailers and have you ever been able to drive at 70mph on the motorway with one

Still trying to find out with any certainty about dates but the original 70 limit was introduced on motorways in 1965. I suppose in theory if there was no limit then 1965 would be the answer.
Since 1977 NO vehicle pulling any type of trailer is allowed to go over 60mph on a motorway or dual carriageway.
you are also limited to 50mph in a 60 zone.
