I tried to research it but either I do not know how to navigate the site or there is no update for the state of North Carolina. I am in the UK and, as theanswerbank is a UK site, always assume the questioners are also in UK unless the question makes it clear this is not so.

Consequently, I'm sorry but I've no idea whether the answer I gave has any relevance to you in USA. You need to find out something about probate law and making complaints about solicitors in your State.

Sorry for butting in-the site here it gives ifo on probate in North Carolina and states the Executor has to lodge an inventory of assets with the court. It might be advisable to find out which court he used and have a look at the inventory.
