I have bought a 1997 Ford Fiesta Flight 1.25 3dr. I have found the pedals to be stiff, and would like to get them loosened a little. is this possible / legal/advisable? If so, who would do it for me?

As it is an oldish car it can't be that they are new and tight or anything like that, but first get somebody to simply lubricate the pedal mounting shafts and linkages to see if that changes anything, a bit of oil in the right place might help.

The clutch pedal ''feel'' is preset in the design of the clutch springs and cannot be changed but it might be that the clutch cable is worn out so maybe if you have a new one fitted it will improve.

The brake pedal ''feel'' is set by the system servo assist and it will not be possible to change it.

The accelerator pedal ''feel'' is set by a spring on the end of the cable and probably you could get somebody to change it for a lighter one from a different model.

The clutches on these cars are hydraulic so if the pedal is heavy then it may be a sign of a worn out clutch. Replacement clutches should cost around 180-190 fitted.

spray WD40 at the piviot points, cable ends and hopefully this will help. if you have a motorcyclist pal he may have a 'cable luber' which would be beter still. cover the pedals with a cloth first 'cos you don't want slippery pedals, recipe for disaster!
the clutch pedals have nylons "cheese wedge" shaped cable holders. If the clutch pedal is fairly stiff, it wont take long for the nylon wedge to wear out. When that happens the clutch will engage and you won't be able to un-engage it. If it is alot stiffer then usual get it checked out.
