1997/R scenic starting problems

hi , im having trouble with my scenic , its a 1997/R rxe 2.0L automatic.
the problem is the car will not start unless i put my foot on the accelerator and over rev the engine then its fine drive away with no problems untill i turn the engine off ,then it does the same thing, the car trys to start but just conks out , but works perfect when i over rev the engine for about 2 to 5 seconds. could some one please give me some advice on how to fix this problem

sounds like you got problem with the auto choke.


normal start up is usually.


turn ignition on, push accelerator to the floor then release. turn key to start engine.


from what you are saying, it sounds like you may have flooded the engine.


the way you describe your start up is usually only for a flooded engine. (too much petrol going from the carb to the intake)
