If you are one of those people who indicate at normal junctions but never indicate at roundabouts, even when doing 360 degrees, can you please explain WHY !?

Without trying to sound Mr Perfect I sometimes I think I am the only one following the Highwy Code here. Anyone else feel the same ?

i totally agree with you.it is so annoying when people dont indicate, especially on roundabouts.we're not mind readers!

they don't indicate because they don't have time to indicate thier intentions due to the fact they are in too much of a hurry to get round the roundabout or they don't know they have to indicate

it is about time the government to bring in a driving retest every five years it might make the roads safer for other drivers

ps please remember that lorries require more room on at roundabouts to complete thier manouver and may take two lanes of the road

I also I agree with katie21179

and derekpara I don't think you are the only one following the highway code there is three here on this page already and many more I hope!!!

Even more annoying are the ones who indicate when they are going straight over !!!

Ladypgold,

So you are one of the drivers who does not indicate at Roundabouts!

When you go straight on at roundabouts you should not indicate when your approaching but after passing the first exit on your left you should indicate left to turn off the roundabout.

Perhaps it would be helpfull to other drivers , especialy when they are waiting to enter the roundabout from the road you are turning into.

Also if you are going straight on at a roundabout that only has two other exits than the one you are approaching on, one to the right and one straight on you should indicate left as you approach as you will be taking the first exit!

I think the lady meant the ones who indicate right on a normal roundabout and then go straight on, across the path of a vehicle in the left lane, which is also going straight ahead.

Idiots with no lane discipline annoy me intensely. Those going three or four exits around but sit in the outside lane causing no end of problems for those using the correct lanes trying then to manoevre to their exit.

Its dangerous and causes many accidents. If someone is not signalling to turn right at a roundabout it is easy to assume that they are turning off. Crash.

I find myself stopping completely to see what those who are not indicating are actually doing - this greatly reduces the fluidity of traffic on the roundabout and is very frustrating as the laziness/stupidity/ignorance of others is causing delays and excess braking for the drivers that have a modecum of sense.

A friend of mine took his test in Minehead as they have the least roundabouts during the test! He still drives very well compared to many I have seen on the road.

The key is driving instructors who CARE about the standards of thier students - not just teaching them enough such that they are able to scrape through the test. Bring on more frequent/more difficult driving tests - I would be more than happy to retake if it meant we could lose some of the unsafe, clueless, cant-see-past-the-front-of-thier-own-bonnet drivers that are on the road today.

BTW - take note of which exit is the PRIMARY exit - its the one which the road you were travelling on would continue on to without having to give way if the roundabout wasn't there. It is this exit which usually counts as 'straight on' and may not necessarily be directly straight on.

Three stars to all of you for such brilliant answers. Nice to know I'm not alone out there !

But wouldn't it be nice to hear from someone who doesn't signal at roundabouts? They must make a conscious decision not to - or do they ?

Still, perhaps this little discussion will make one or two drivers think.

To be honest derek, I don't think they do make a concious decision not to indicate; they just don't! As indicating is of no benefit to themselves, they can't see the point of doing it. Indicators are there to show what your intentions are to other people. HGV drivers like bob and myself really appreciate people who do signal, as it saves bringing 44 tonnes to a complete stop and then starting off again. On an average day I bet I waste about 20 of extra fuel re starting the truck from 0mph, just because people do not indicate.
It's for the same reason some cyclists lurch about at night with no lights: some people are selfish idiots.

Dean (?) Anyone who has ever driven a truck, and I'm one, is aware of the things you mentioned and act accordingly. I think it would make evryone more considerate drivers if they drove a truck and rode a motorbike, even for a for a day or two. Cheers, mate.
Always expect the unexpected to happen. Sod's law number 1......if it can it will.
Never rely on anyone's indicator.......it's better not to signal than to signal incorrectly.
The Highway Code has too many get-out clauses such as "unless local conditions state differently". It isn't law.....just good advice.
Question Author
Point taken, ianess. but learning to signal correctly isn't rocket science !
how can they hold their mobile in one hand, grip a cig with the other ,steer,AND indicate all at the same time? it must be nature,s fault for not supplying humans with five arms...a brain cell for each arm!

Big it up, Daddyo !! Great one !
This is one of my pet hates so many people think indicators are an optional extra and therefore dont use them
