My R reg Astra has broken down outside my house. Last time it was used I had to drive it with Engine management light on for 3 miles. The car was rocking in neutral like it was trying to pull away. I have had a lot of probs within last 10 months. Have had head gasket done although it never stopped the Engine management light coming on at irregular intervals, car has used 19 litres of oil without a leak or smoke trail. I have only done 3000 miles since last April as its so unreliable. Have had battery checked. Exhaust has always rattled in 2 years of owning it. Car itself has done 53000 miles and has full service history. It won't jump start and the engine turn over whilst almost firing doesn't sound right. Could it possibly be sugar in my petrol or the cat convertor gone wrong? or anything else It could be put down to? Beginning to wonder if its being regularly vandalised its going wrong so often. Can't afford expensive bills either. Please help.

Can you get it to a garage with diagnostic equipment? They will then connect your engine with a lap top to see if the ECU (the electronic brain of the car) has reported any faults. A VX garage will charge you arould 60.00 just for this, plus any work you tell them to do.

I had a cavalier and now a vectra and both had issues with their ECU.

If the bills are mounting up, can you afford to PX it for a reliable motor?

Can't get away without taking it to a garage can I?!!!!

I think i'll have to call a mobile mechanic with diagnostic equipment. VX dealers always try and get me to trade my car in everytime it goes in. Now when it needs work I don't even get a courtesy car anymore. I am on a low income at the moment so I can barely afford to run the car let alone fix it.

Thanks for your reply!!!
