Thinking of fitting a High Intensity Discharge headlight on my 50cc moped. I saw one the other day and it looked good but are there any downsides?

Up until two years ago, any moped with such a headlamp retro-fitted would automatically fail the MOT. However that changed from 22/03/21. So, as long as the new headlamps comply with the basic rules, their presence won't result in an MOT fail.

However insurers insist upon being told about any modifications to vehicles and have a nasty habit of increasing premiums on vehicles that have had modifications made to them. So that needs to be kept in mind when considering such a change.
You may find yourself involved in H.I.D. with other road users, high intensity discussions that is, depending on how you have it set.
You will need to make sure it is not problematic for oncoming drivers because if it is and one of them is a police officer then there might be problems
Good idea for daylight riding when motorists can't see you but could be a problem at night as detailed in previous posts.
