Just had my Astra serviced, said cam belt needed replacing, and thatif it just 'goes' it's a big deal. My mileage is low, can I wait alittle while, or should I do it ASAP?

Cam belts age in both terms of mileage and age. Majority of cars need the belt changed roughly 50000miles/5 years.
So a low mileage is no protection, and if the belt goes you could be in for a 1000+ bill.
As above, book it in asap, otherwise you'll need new valves, a new head gasket, etc. etc., v. expensive, not worth the risk!
My Renault Scenic's belt went at 33,000miles just two weeks out of warranty. It cost 1,400 to fix. I suggest to get different quotes to have it replaced and ask for the old one.
