I have found a button on my automatic lever when pressed O/D off appears on my dashboard. It has always been off as I didn't know it was there but was wondering when I should use it?

To finish use it whenever you can, reduces engine revs and gives you better mpg.

You mean it has always been 'on' because you had no notification that it was 'off'!

Make, model, year of car?

I assume the overdrive is on continuously. What is an overdrive for and when should I use it....or turn it off please?
Need details of your car manufacturer model and year.
