What was the first hot hatch car ever produced??

I think it is generally agreed that the Mk 1 Golf GTI started the trend.

many thanks thats sorted out a slight disagreement...

The first hatchback was the Austin A40 Farina... I haven't a clue if they did a sporty version though! ;)

In modern terms I'd go with the Golf GTi too.

Yep wideley accepted that the GTI was the first hot hatch
