fiat punto 60 sx full revs

the engine has recently decided to go to full revs on its own .if the engine is turned off and left for a minute then the problem disappears for approx 30 miles


then it will start all over again


any ideas please !!

Clutch dear boy/girl. Probably the plate.
W-M, Don't knopw how you arrived at "clutch" as the cause of this. Sounds much more like an engine management problem. I had a Peugeot 307 that did the same thing............cruising happily at 40mph then bang straight to full revs without any input from me. Most un-nerving as it was a 2 Litre Auto and was fairly rapid in kick-down. Switching off and waiting always reset the EM system, (local Peugeot dealers never managed to sort it), but eventually this thing was going to kill me or someone else so it had to go, with appropriate warnings to the dealer.
