These young people that Died in Doncaster last week, although not confirmed I would think speed has a lot to do with it! why can't the law make it legal for the young owners under 25 have their cars restricted to a set speed, a speed retarder that is "Sealed" on the fuel system of the car, It is done with HGVs & it can be done with cars, what do you think?

It sounds like the teenagers were innocent victims. The 21 year old driver of the other car has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. A third car was involved. In all the reports I have read, excessive speed is not mentioned. My guess would be an overtaking manoeuvre rather than a speeding offence.

When someone passes the driving test it means they are qualified to drive. Putting an age restriction on drivers based on their age makes no sense at all.
Question Author
Gromit, I disagree with, " It mean they are Qualified to Drive" I am not picking believe me, To pass the Test you are "starting" the Qualification process, but not the expertise, the job I used to do in Road Haulage a Driver was called a driver with Time & Experience, the public might not be aware of this, a person driving a car & at the same time Learning on an Empty Loaded HGV, that Artic responds in a different way than a loaded Artic, that person passes his test on a Friday get's a job on Monday driving a 44tonner, because he / she holds a Class 1 does not in my eyes can call themselves a drive due to the fact they have not got the experience, Prior to test day the leaner will be travelling within the Law, as soon as the test is passed that's when the problems start! Speed, Again I am not Indicating that these young people was speeding but it does contribute to a lot of Accidents / Deaths where the Young are involved, people have different views, but there is a time & a place to drive fast, & you can only drive fast within your time experience in Driving.

Empty HGV I Meant.
And how is a new driver supposed to get expertise at driving at speed if their vehicle is restricted?
Are you advocating that they should not be allowed on motorways until they are 25?

And anyone under 25 not allowed to overtake?

I don't think you have thought it through.
Question Author
They can book a day on a fast track.

They should go with someone to lean the way Motorists use the Motorways

To know how to Join the Motorway /leave the Motorway.

To read about it & doing it is two different Issues.
Personally I still think the problem starts at the very beginning, the driving test is no longer fit for purpose. A pilot doesn't take up a small two seater for a few times, gets his licence and takes up a jumbo jet full of people the next day, yet we are allowing the equivalent of this, albeit on a smaller scale, everyday on our roads.

sorry though we were talking about the 5 killed on the A630

That's what the post was about Ivor, but these things do wander, again to the Families belonging to these young people, our thoughts are with you all.
weecalf said; "Should the insurance companies not be doing something about this problem .They are making billions out of high insurance for the under 25 driver, where is all that money going"

The money is going on huge claims, sometimes running into several million pounds (lost earnings of innocent victims, care for life etc), that result from serious accidents, and young drivers cause far more than their fair share of these accidents
Question Author
F.F. This is one very good reason for motorist to install Front / Rear Dash Cams, they will help you with Claims, they do not cost a fortune & can help you in Court if need be, although in some cases Monies can be tight, I would advise people to get these fitted, but each to their own.
How do you 'restrict' younger drivers to lower speeds? Bearing in mind that our speed limits cover 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and70mph.

Better education is the only way with a much more extensive 'Driving Test' which should include motorway, skidpan and night driving.
Question Author
Yes, I agree Slack, but it still boils down to the Driver's right foot & being cocky.
