Just purchased a megane scenic and rear fog lights dont work also when I press the brake the nearside rear light goes out. Is there anything inherantly obvious I should be looking for? Before I take it in. Thanks.

Just take it in. It sounds like theres a ground wire come off somewhere !

Seen a few Citroen Picassos with the same thing happening with the rear lights.

Yes it is an earthing issue. Ford Escorts and Fiestas were particularly bad for this in the late 80s and early 90s but it can happen on any car. My '79 Viva had the issue - I just ran a line from the earth of the rear light cluster to the bumper mounting bracket and that sorted it. Auto electrics can be extremely fickle at the best of times.
