APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.

Depends if you go round bringing people hyacinths from the hyacinth garden really Sandy.

(I think about that verse every April 1st!)
As Flanders and Swann said ...

April brings the sweet Spring showers ...

On and on for hours and hours !
winter doesn't keep me warm by covering me with snow, but that may be because I do not have a poetic sensibility.
Roses are red
That may be true
But violets are violet

No "Oh, to be in England Now that April's there"
Snow keeps polar bears warm.

And Eskimos.

Okay okay, someone will say its the insulating effect of a layer of snow retaining the heat created by ... etc
"Oh, to be in England Now that April's there"
(but not the cornish bit where it's grey and wet)

T.S. Eliots finest, (some would say)
what's not to agree with?
JJ has a poetic sensibility, so that's one of us.
March winds and April showers make way for sweet May flowers...
Don't forget Mr Chaucer:
Whan that Aprill, with his shoures soote
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote
And bathed every veyne in swich licour,
Of which vertu engendred is the flour;
Whan Zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath in the Ram his halfe cours yronne,
And smale foweles maken melodye,
That slepen al the nyght with open eye-
(So priketh hem Nature in hir corages);
Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages
