I am very interested in purchasing a classic 1960s car from one of the former Soviet countries and have only bought cars in the United Kingdom before.
Could anyone tell me the basic facts in shipping a car into the United Kingdom and the taxes that I may incur by doing so.
Many thanks in advance.

Looks like it's a lot simpler (and no duty) if it's coming from an EU country than one outside the EU.

So if you can source it from Poland, Romania etc it's going to be a lot easier than if you get it from say Russia
Make sure you are dealing with a reputable dealer in the Country of purchase, check them out on Google, if Bought, ask the condition / dents / what you will expect to see when the car arrives, what port, the car normally get, when put into a Container gets the wheels wedged to stop movement and depending if the container has Floor restraints, it will be strapped again to stop movement.

Many thanks for your responses and link. Looks like purchasing an Eastern Bloc classic from Latvia will be a better bet than Russia.
