I'm renting a new Ford Escape whilst on holiday in the US, lovely car. There are illuminated numbers on the drivers side door reading 1-2 3-4 etc until reaching 9-0. They go off when the car is locked. There's no guide with the car and just wondered what they are for, I know someone will know!

Door lock works on a number being entered into the keypad , no key required.
