I've been trying to sell my car now for 3months, without success. I've tried all kinds of methods but still no joy. I'm thinking of using E-Bay. Has anyone ever sold a car through E-Bay? Anyone on here I mean!

Hi there 10ClarionSt,  my step-dad just sold his car thru ebay.....having bought it off ebay a year ago.  No probs as such, however he insisted on cash payment for the car as cheques can be problematic.  As in, Bank Drafts can be forged, and personal cheques are not to be trusted!

He also put in a small waiver that the car was advertised elsewhere and that he reserved the right to end the auction.....just in case he got a good offer locally for it.

Other than that, he seems to think its a good way to get a wider market for your motor!

If you do put it on ebay, beware of offers from abroad from people who ostensibly have friends in the UK who want to buy it. They offer to send a cheque for more than the amount you are asking, and then want you to send the difference back to them and their 'friend' will pick up the car later. The cheque can actually be cleared by your bank, you send the cash and the check then bounces. Believe me, it happens.
The main reason you are not selling is most likely that it is over priced. Unless you intend to put no reserve on it ebay won't help. The advice above is excellent though.
I sold my dads car on ebay.  The chap bought the car 'sold as seen' so there was very little come back.  Be as honest as possible and always ask for local pick up.  Stress the car can be paid via cash on delivery or a bankers draft and the car to be collected once all have been cleared.  I went to the AA website who have loads of advice on selling privately as well as a great pro-forma for sellers/buyers.

Just sold mine at the weekend. It was a 93 Astra in farly good nick, probably worth around 500 -600 but I got just under 400 (better than the trade-in price!)

Depends how desperate you are. You will almost certainly get rid of it, but you might not get as much as you hope for.
