If you've been told to produce you'll have to produce your licence, insurance and mot.

They will tell you at the police station what happens from there.

Do you have any points already?
And driving with no insurance is an absolute offence. There will be no getting out of it.
I think you've got off quite lightly. They could have impounded your car there and then, with all the costs involved to get back.
The matter is most likely to be dealt with by a Fixed Penalty Notice. If so, you'll get a £200 penalty and 6 points on your licence. (If the matter went to court, you'd be given a fine based upon your income, plus 6 to 8 penalty points and you'd also have to pay costs and a 'victim surcharge').
Let this be a lesson to all. When taking out new cover, check your car here. If it says "NO" and you drive your car, expect a tug from plod so call your insurers and make sure all is tip top their end, it may just be a delay in the old bill's system being updated. But if a typo or a declined card is at fault, you have time to get it rectified.

if you could prove that you were only uninsured for one day, and insurance co confirmed the error and that it was their fault, would they not be able to appeal it?

i mean i know its usually just some idiot trying to get out of it, who hasn't been insured for months, but is there really nothing you can do?
