I don`t know if this comes under history but here goes.
Nearly all day today(Sunday4th) we,my wife, our daughter and myself have been looking through books and on the web, for the origins of the name of this road. One explanation is that a Mr Ball kept a inn where he had a pond at the back, and for a small fee one could take pot shots at the ducks and if you got one you could keep it.
Any way can anyone add to this story?

my book says it was named after John Ball, who lived nearby in the 1600s (possibly a bit early for duck-shooting). There was a pond there until about 200 years ago.
