Semi-automatic on automatic mode will not find gear

I've got a semi-automatic Corsa. The following process seems to repeat itself recently. I drive in automatic mode approx. 1 hour on motorway, all is fine. I get into slow traffic (brake, drive, brake, drive etc) and after approx. half an hour it won't find it's gear anymore. Any idea what this can be? Should I start driving semi-automatic instead of automatic. Thanks, EF.

That would great, it's my first car and I only got it 2 months ago (has done 33.000 miles so far) and don't know quite what to do (apart from going to a Vauxhall dealer and probably get it fixed for a lot of money...)
