Getting it wrong once ?

Isn't it printed on your fuel cap ?
Question Author
Don't know do not have car yet.
It isn't for me it is for my wife who can be a little forgetful!!!
Inside the filler cap, there should be written IN BOLD "Diesel only" or similar words.
Funnily enough I made a mistake when moving from diesel to unleaded.

YOU WILL REMEMBER just think how much it will cost you if you don't

Wife is far cleverer than I ever will be but can be a little "OH WELL!!" forgetful.
Question Author
Once her car sounded like a tank but never thought to check the oil!!!!
Oh Well!!!!!
A few hundred £££ repairs will be enough for you/her to remember
Just put some bizarre sticker inside the flap/on the cap if you can't find a sticker that says DIESEL. When she sees the bizarre sticker, it will jog her memory every time.
Question Author
NOPE it won't be!
Will just be another "oh well" moment whilst I grit my teeth.

Prey why methyl?
You're right methyl, an unleaded fuel nozzle should not fit in a diesel filler tank
Fill up at a garage where they fill it for you, though these are few and far between now.
I got a particularly strange fob and put it on my keys when I first switched. I also never ever call the car fuel anything but diesel even to myself and I double check the pump every time I fill. It's been 3 years now and so far so good. (Touching wood)

The tubes carrying the diesel from the pump to the car are normally coloured black, whereas those for petrol are normally green.

This should be ok as long as your wife is not colour blind :)
I haven't used this before but it might assist

Our work vehicles all have audio alert fitted that instructs people to fill with diesel whenever the filler cap is opened, it has massively reduced the problem
I managed to put unleaded in our new diesel car the other week. It got 3 miles and stopped and would not start again. Luckily it is a motability car as my wife is disabled. They were really good, sent a special misfuel vehicle that pumped out the contaminated fuel , refilled with diesel and got the car restarted. Didn't cost anything as the motability insurance picked up the tab, i even ended up with more fuel than I had in the first place.
I now know that a green unleaded nozzel WILL fit a diesel tank ! first diesel car I have ever had in 42 years of driving.
I've done it myself Eddie, its worse when you put diesel in a petrol car, you don't even get out of the garage and you need to flush out every drop of diesel before it will run again. I once ran a diesel lorry on a 50/50 mix of the two for a week without a problem until the valves burnt out.
I would encourage you and wife to become accustomed to the smell of diesel as engaging the olfactory sense can be a great help to the memory. While this may not be enough on its own it will make a difference when combined with other measures.
