The reflector section which holds the bulbs has become loose and throws the beam towards the heavens, even on the lowest level setting.

I may have accidentally unclipped the unit in some way when trying to change a bulb.

Is there a way of securing the component without having to remove the bumper etc , as one would have to do when replacing the whole headlamp unit ? The Haynes manual doesn't give any clues.

The car is an X reg. petrol Polo 1.4.

Cheers

Looks like the shroud came off the adjusters. They just pop on (and off unfortunately). Most likely you will need to remove the housing to try to force it back on the adjuster. You can do it without braking open the headlight, Don't get too rough as the adjusters are very easy to break.

Thanks, TM. I think you are spot on. I did use some force trying to fit a headlight bulb.

Sounds like a job for my VW trained mechanic

NB. Why would an answer be removed on such an innocuous subject ?!
