SLX11 Longlife oil

I have a 2004 VW Caravelle which uses Castrol SLX11 longlife oil,my understanding of this is that there are no set services intervals & when the oil degrades a sensor picks this up & the service light comes on.

My first service came up at 13000 miles which I thought was not to bad bearing in mind it was new, the second service however came up at 22000, this is actually less than if it was on fixed service intervals.

I am begining to wonder if the service intervals have been set to 10000 miles instead of variable, anyone had any similar problems

Consider this.

You have done 13000 M on brand new, untainted, fresh oil.

When this oil is replaced (about 5-6 L) there are traces of tainted oil throughout the system. Assuming this aproximates to half a litre, that would mean your new oil is kinda 10% used already, about 1300 M leaving only 11700 M of the riginal 13000.

True, this still adds up to more than you got, but it's the theory I'm painting, not the pure mathematics.

Also consider this...

Are you sure the dealer replaced the correct oil (and all of it)?

Can you be sure they replaced the Oil filter?

The sensor is more likely to be tripped by mileage than oil analysis, can this be set by the dealer?
