Laptop - Memory stick

We have a file on an oldish lap top (it has access for floppies) and on the back are two USB ports. We have tried to down load the file onto a new memory stick but dont have any luck. The laptop is not connected to the internet etc..
Any suggestions please.

What OS is it running on?

Try using a smaller (as in Megabytes) memory stick as it may be that the one you are using is too big.
