Not idleing smoothly could be one of a couple of things that I can think of, Mass air flow sensor could maybe do with a clean ( look on ebay for some proper spray ) or it could possibly be the crankshaft position sensor starting to breakdown.
Also, could be you have a dodgy injector, maybe some Redex or similar in your petrol would cure that.
Well bugaloo, doe's it ever work properly,.

must have posted more questions about your car than anyone on answerbank.
Hi Top, I gather you have ask for a job on A.B. lol, the last car you had was a 1800cc E36 is that right? you now have a 6 cyl E46, you cannot compare the both Top for obvious reasons.

1895cc was last car but ye, i wouldn't be comparing,. i will be replacing my mass airflow sensor soon, and i put the redx into my car, what are all causes for rough idling, wouldnt the camshaft come up on the code reader though

hahaha, i think i have posted more than everyone combined haha, ooops
Cheap fuel could one of the main.
Crankshaft position sensor not camshaft position sensor. No it would throw a code if it is only part knackerd.
Question Author
definitely not cheap fuel at 1.69 per litre, ha, maybe at some point soon i will replace crankshaft sensor
What sort of condition are your spark plugs.
Hi Tops, when you replaced the plugs 6, did you check the coil packs for cracks? did you over tighten the 2 bolts that secure the packs, you seem to have an awful lot of trouble with the Idle on this car, I would take the top off again & check each coil pack for hairline cracks, I have just given mine a full service today, when you re/tighten the bolts "Do not over tighten" as this could be your problem, for the time it takes It's worth looking.
