genuine question and just curious... it seems it is really just the manouvre of an overtake, but on the other side... so why is it so bad?

i know it is illegal so i dont need the legalities, just the actual reason why it was made illegal - why is it dangerous or bad etc?

been on the motorway a lot last few days and witnessed a few people do them, and couldnt really see a problem... they got round the person they wanted to easily enough, and perhaps its better than a bit of intimidating road rage tailgating?

or am i missing something?

thanks

i did not say i was continually flashed by people behind!

i said witnessed it 3 times in the past week - only once did it happen to me!
joko..you have passed your driving test ???
If people drive correctly on a motorway there should be no need for undertaking during a normal flow of traffic.
Question Author
MT - your example is irrelevant to my question of undertaking though -

the scenario you state can happen at any time now, with 2 cars merely changing lanes - 2 cars, one in the outer lane one in the inner - both wanting to move into the middle lane at the same time - the fact that they both originally came from the middle lane, behind the middle car is irrelevant to the problem faced ahead with them both trying to get into the middle lane.

the fact is, both are entitled to move into the middle lane at any time... that is why both must look properly before moving.

that is not my opinion or my world - it is fact.
You do make me laugh Joko ..... lol lol
Question Author
murray... you can read can't you?
I think this is all getting very silly now !!!
Question Author
i'm not really suggesting it is changed ... as stated it is not really a necessary manouvre if people drive correctly

i just wondered why it was considered bad enough to make it an 'illegal' manouvre... thats all - i'm not sure how many other ways there are to reiterate my question - people seem to just scan read and jump to there own conclusions about whats been asked and jump in - why people seem to want to be abusive and make this row i dont know

MT - you make me laugh too - but not in a good way...
Any rational person will concede that a free for all on the motorway, will lead to more deaths.

murray, is it your first time on a Joko thread ?
Mike...I guess so !!!....note to me...avoid !!!! hee hee...
Question Author
free for all?

see what i mean about reading properly... jeez
Question Author
please feel free to avoid the thread....i have no interest in your comments

unless of course you have something more to offer than abuse, and have an actual answer to the question i actually asked, instead of the one you have perceived and decided i have asked, and are going to cling to regardless of how many times i explain what i actually meant
Having been on the road for many years Joko, nothing surprises me about the way people drive, one last one for you all, Ummmm, you should know this area, North bound M1, about 2 miles North Newport Pagnell, there is a pull in for the Emergency services / police etc, about a mile North of that a HGV had a BLOW OUT (flat tyre) on his front Drivers side OFF/ SIDE tyre, the UK Driver STOPPED in the inside lane " NOT THE HARD SHOULDER" this bloody idiot of a tyre fitter was changing the wheel where the HGV had stopped, need I say any more?
why is undertaking illegal?

it isn.t ..........so your whole thread is er ..... irrelevant
Question Author
yup - i know...said it a few times now and had you read the whole thread from the start you would have seen that on the first page -
so all your assertations that its oh so terribly dangerous and wrong 'in my world' and constitutes a 'free for all' are also irrelevant...and wrong...
life is just toooooo short you know !!!!
Question Author
sure is, so please go away if you cannot offer anything of value
murray .... either agree with Joko , or go away
ooooohhh!!!!......well scuse me for having a life !!
Question Author
murray, all you have done is insult me...what did you expect me to say to you?

mick, it is you that cannot bear for someone not to agree with you - you just cannot stop until you feel your word has been taken...like a dog with a bone.

i am trying to discuss the issue with people who are raising valuable points - and you just expected me to instantly change my mind and agree with you - just because you say so - and when i didnt you became abusive, obnoxious and rude ... does that approach ever work?

you also rather pathetically decided to bring up every other occasion that i have not instantly adopted your opinion over my own - as though you genuinely believe your word is absolute... and i am flattered that you even remember past posts of mine - i have barely any recollection of you or yours.

you clearly havent even read the posts, and seemingly dont undertsand it, so how you can expect me to take anything you say seriously i dont know

i quite simply cannot see why it is considered such a dangerous manouvre when it is so similar to so many acceptable ones - thats all - and no-one has been able to give a definitive answer to why it is so frowned upon - your random scenarios can happen in many other manouvres that are perfectly acceptable so dont really hold water as being the answer here
