My wife has a Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 Multijet Diesel. On cold start it smokes really quite badly and it continues to smoke until normal running temperature is reached then it stops totally. The smoke is more white than blue and has a very strong diesel smell.
The fuel pressure sensor has been replaced and the jets have been reconditioned.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem could be and what else externally can I try before i give up?

Thanks in advance.

Could be injectors.

Sorry, I meant injectors....... it has reconditioned injectors!!
Thats that idea up the spout then.
Im sure I read somewhere that worn piston rings can cause that!
Question Author
How do i know if its worn piston rings?
get it compression tested
I'm sure this is down to Injector sleeve the Judderman, there is one that may has a crack in it, I doubt its the Rings otherwise you would have said that the car uses oil! does it?, check the rear of the exhaust is it showing signs of oil? with the weather of late & the very cold spells diesels will send out condensation but not as severe as a petrol engine, have you found the car using excess fuel? have you changed from a recognised fuel supplier to a cheaper source?
Question Author
It doesnt seem to be using oil, and there are no signs in the exhaust either. Its not condensation, its definately smoke. Im not sure if its using more fuel than usual.
Ive not changed my fuel source. I get it from the same place most the time.
Is the car running as well as it should/ the reason I asked, is there small amounts water getting into the derv.
I have had the same and had the injectors replaced. I was told it could be the turbo but also had a new one of those. When eventually going to Fiat they were not phased by this at all and said its just the car starting up. All mechanics I have spoken to said noting to worry about unless it is always white smoke. Did you come to a conclusion?
thejudderman, I have "exactly" the same problem with my Fiat Bravo 1.6 Multijet. Did you finally find the root of the problem? Was it the injectors?
