suspected oil leak

i was sorting out my air intake boot today, and i looked deep down the engine bay, and seen fresh looking oil in like metal pockets at the bottom of the engine, dead centre length ways, i cant figure from looking at it, where it is coming from, any ideas, the head gasket is ok though

You will have to supply some car details for the experts on here to be able to help you. First guess from me is rocker/cam cover leaking?

I think most of us know it's a e46 BMW 323i by now!

If it's fresh looking it might just be some that was spilt last time it was filled or topped up, clean it up and check again in a couple of days to see if it comes back.
